I joined Peking University as an Assistant Professor in May 2019, after finishing my Newton International Fellowship at the University of Cambridge. Prior to my two-year stint at Cambridge, I obtained my Ph.D. degree in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida, and subsequently did a three-year postdoc at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University. I was trained as a field ecologist with a special interest in how forest birds respond to anthropogenic impacts. This academic upbringing still largely defines my research identity, although I also try to expand the scope and strengthen the utility of my research by borrowing from other expertise, such as data synthesis, remote sensing and environmental economics. More information about me is provided here.

I joined the conservationEE Lab in 2023 after receiving my Ph.D. degree in ecology from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Science. Previously, my research focused on giant panda conservation, specifically their individual movement, population networks, and landscape restoration. Currently, my focus is on fully accounting for the biodiversity effectiveness of forest restoration by considering the influence of international trade.

I got my PhD degree from Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University, in Suzhou, China. My research interests are land-use change and landscape complexity on biodiversity conservation and trade-offs between biodiversity conservation and production. Currently, my study is about the effect of landscape complexity on arthropod diversity and biological pest control in rice farming systems, and land-use strategy for both biodiversity conservation and agricultural and silvicultural production.

I am currently working on the potential conflicts between renewable energy development and biodiversity conservation, focusing on how to reconcile the expansion of wind and solar power with the land-use demands of agriculture and forestry, and on optimising spatial planning to better safeguard biodiversity.  I am also researching the responses of global biodiversity patterns to climate change and human activities on forest ecosystems.  Previously, I received my PhD degree from the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2025.  My PhD research focused on the connectivity and effectiveness of Chinas protected area network.  Looking ahead, I aim to broaden my research interests beyond protected areas, paying greater attention to ecological processes in surrounding landscapes and to the integration of biodiversity conservation with socio-economic development.

My research centers on biodiversity, specifically how to ensure its value and the services it provides are effectively integrated into relevant policies and practices. I focus on empowering companies to recognize, monitor, assess, manage, and disclose their biodiversity dependencies and impacts. This includes exploring how businesses can embed biodiversity considerations into their culture, strategy, organization, and action plans. My particular interest lies in the agricultural, forestry, and infrastructure sectors, given their significant land-use changes and direct connection to biodiversity. To achieve this, I investigate how companies impact biodiversity and explore various mitigation approaches. I also assess corporate biodiversity performance by analyzing ESG and sustainable development reports, and I examine the role of biodiversity disclosure standards like GRI 101. My methodology also includes conducting questionnaires and interviews to identify factors influencing companies' biodiversity performance. Ultimately, I aim for my research to provide actionable recommendations that advance biodiversity conservation.

I received my Ph.D. degree in ecology from University of Science and Technology of China through a collaborative program with Research Centre for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. My research interests include spatiotemporal patterns of biodiversity under human impacts and conservation strategies. My previous research is about ecological responses of wintering waterbirds in the Yangtze River floodplain. Currently, I’m working on biodiversity patterns in the production-origin plantations repurposed for ecosystem services, and exploring conservation enhancement opportunities.

I received my PhD degree from East China Normal University in Shanghai, China. My current research interests focus on community dynamics and biological ecological responses under habitat fragmentation. In particular, I am interested in interdisciplinary research that applies passive acoustic monitoring to bird acoustics, community ecology, and conservation biology, intending to provide theoretical support for the rapid assessment and conservation of vocalizing biodiversity.

I am a fifth-year Ph.D. student with a geography background. I obtained my BSc from Wuhan University in 2020. My research investigates the conservation opportunities presented by abandoned tree plantations within southern China's collective forests. Specifically, I aim to: 1) quantify the extent of abandonment, 2) identify its key socioeconomic drivers, and 3) propose viable policy and management solutions, such as native ecosystem restoration or resuming wood production to reduce pressure on natural forests.

I am a fifth-year Ph.D. student. I majored in geography during my undergraduate study and obtained my BSc from East China Normal University in 2021. Currently, I am studying the relationship between bird biodiversity and timber production in different types of restored forests in East China, with the aim of exploring the optimal restoration strategy through effective land use planning that takes into account both biodiversity conservation and production benefit.

I am a Ph.D. student in our group, currently a visiting scholar in the Echeverri Lab at the University of California, Berkeley. My research focuses on examining the comprehensiveness and shortcomings of China’s policy mix related to forest restoration, with the aim of aligning them more closely with practical needs for biodiversity conservation and the provision of ecosystem services. I am also interested in exploring which forest management practices can enhance and synergize multiple ecosystem benefits, thereby addressing interconnected social, economic, and environmental challenges. In addition, I have a growing interest in biodiversity credits and their potential role in promoting forest conservation and sustainable development.

I'm a PhD student mainly focusing on biodiversity conservation in human-altered or human-dominated ecosystems. I obtained my BSc with a major in ecology at the School of Life Sciences, Peking University in 2023. I have a general interest in conserving bird species and their habitat, and now specifically investigating how landbirds respond to land-use change. My fieldwork is centered in the Eastern Himalayas, and I am also engaged with conservation issues along the East Asian Flyway.
